Since origin as a brilliant stroke of innovation by Mr. Kundan Lal Gujral, both tandoor and tandoori food are now synonymous with Indian cuisine throughout the world, a history that we take immense pride in.

The company that was founded in 1920 and has achieved new heights of success under the leadership of our current CEO and Chairman, Mr. Ashim Gujral grandson of the Founder, Mr. Kundan Lal Gujral.

Mr Ashim Gujral is the current chairman of Moti Mahal Delux group and the CEO of Moti Mahal Delux Group.

An alumnus of Hotel Management, Pusa Institute, Mr Ashim Gujral learned the secrets of his grandfather Mr Kundan Gujral’s kitchen by actually working in the kitchen.

He is now actively involved in training and mentoring new Hotel Management students at the Pusa Institute. As well he started with one restaurant now expanded to 100+ outlets in Pan Asia and Abroad.

History

Mr. Kundan Lal Gujral, the man who gave tandoor to the world.

He was born in the 1900s in an undivided Punjab in Chakwal.

Having lost his father at a tender age, he was looking for means to support his family. He dug a tandoor right in the middle of an eatery in Peshawar and there began the legendary culinary invention, the tandoor.

In 1947 when partition struck India, Kundan Lal Gujral lost everything and had to flee.

Despite the hardship he still came to Delhi and there in the liveliest intersection of old Delhi and new Daryaganj in Gora Bazaar, he established a tandoor café now on his own and gave the same name as what was beyond the frontier.

And here it was the beginning of Moti Mahal.
